#22 The Heron

The Heron (760mm x 1020mm acrylic on stretched canvas)

I enter the studio silently, my movements tipped with caution, drawn into the image as I complete the final touches to the heron as it slowly emerges from the canvas, its still, motionless tension contrasting with the gently moving rushes as they respond to the early morning breeze. The sound of the water fills the spaces between the breaths of the wind, a frog croaks and a moorhen calls from somewhere deep within the reeds, moments in time at the edge of the stream.

I leave silently so as not to disturb the cycle of life at the waters edge, for here I am just an observer, pleased that I am not a fish.
