PAINTINGS & ILLUSTRATIONS

Noel’s paintings of whales and dolphins capture the beauty and majesty of these mysterious ocean mammals, from a pair of Gray whales following their ancient migratory route between Baja California and the North Sea, to the image of a mother and calf southern right whale, basking in the calm waters of Walker Bay. His work has a strong scientific basis and is used extensively within marine conservation.

Noel works in a range of mediums including airbrush, watercolour, pastel and acrylic.

GALLERY | SCIENTIFIC ILLUSTRATIONS

Over the years Noel has developed a highly complex process of morphologically mapping the worlds species, with comparative field data being condensed and averaged in order to determine exact proportions of comparative measurements, such as the height and position of a dorsal fin, or the exact position of the eye or length of beak. This attention to detail has enabled Noel to create extremely accurate scientific illustrations.

FINE ART SCULPTURE

Sculpture for me is the most challenging but also most rewarding medium in which to work. It is one thing to capture a true-likeness of each individual species but it is something else altogether to catch that wonderful sense of movement, grace and life in a cold medium such as bronze. This for me creates a massive artistic challenge and I will only release a piece to the foundry once I feel that I have expressed these important aspects in each sculpture.”
